Maldives is a beautiful country. Maldives means garland islands. Maldives has more than 2,000 atolls. The word atoll comes from Dhiveli word atolu meaning coral island. All the people who live in Maldives are Muslims. Nobody can become a citizen or marry anyone in the country and know about the Islamic culture. Islamic culture does not allow people wearing short dresses, doing drugs or alchohol, or eating pork. Dhiveli is the official language of the Maldives. Dhiveli is a language of Indo-European language group and has Arabic script.
Maumoon Abdul is President of Maldives. It has poor economy; the currency is Maldivian rufiyaa and which is made up of 100 laari. The major exports of Maldives are coconut items, fish, grains and root crops. Sugar and rice are major imports. Boat carving and fishing are the major occupation of the people of Maldives. Coconuts, beach napukas, Jasmine, chilies, oranges, pumpkins and watermelons are the important plants that grow in Maldives. The animals that found in Maldives are Dugong, Peafowl, Red herrin, Dolphins and Lizards.
